Date: 2005-09-17 04:25 am (UTC)Still, Galloway said some disturbing things. I don't get people who oppose the occupations of Iraq and Palestine, and the current occupation of Afghanistan, but make apologies for the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan.

Date: 2005-09-17 04:30 am (UTC)I have no idea what Galloway's said about it, though. But the Western cold war perspective on it glosses over a few things that happened right before the invasion.

Date: 2005-09-17 07:52 am (UTC)I always thought it ironic how the US worked so hard to replace a government that really did have somewhat western values with a bunch of people whose stance was antithetical to western thought.
I think the soviet experiment in Afghanistan was probably doomed anyway, but the way the US conducted its business with the mujahideen showed them that the US was no better than the USSR. Not many things gets people quite as mad as when they get the feeling they have been used as a tool. I also wonder how much the US government's agents were involved in the opium trade. Hey, it was good enough in Laos...

Date: 2005-09-24 03:14 pm (UTC)There is almost nothing better than chaning the captions and editing Family Circus.
The only thing better is doing the same to "Cathy" (or is it Kathy? I'm not so much thinking good).
AND I need a Boondocks icon.
