Another big photo post
Jun. 17th, 2006 07:50 pmI've been busy the last few days.
As promised, pictures from Fellow Worker Smokey's CD launch:
Vicki "Fellow Worker" Guzman opened the show:

Then Smokey did a set:

Then the band came on:

Last night, they closed off College St. for a big street party.

I don't have decent photos of it, but there were a ton of bands up and down the street.
zingerella and I started dancing to this polka-ish band in front of the CHIN building. (Well, technically, Z. was dancing and I was vaguely lumbering to the beat.) We were soon joined by two other young women, then their mom. It was pretty sweet.

Finally, there was a demo at Queen's Park today in support of the Six Nations reclamation action in Caledonia. Although it seems that the dispute is sort of settled (the province has bought the land to give back in trust to the Six Nations), the demo still went ahead.

The guy on the right is from the Humanists. He was going on about peace and negotiating as equals (hardly a possibility when one side is a colonizer and the other side is the colonized). The Mohawk kid next to him started interjecting. I don't know why they had this white kid droning on—they should have just given the mic to the Mohawk guy. I don't have much patience for white kids speaking for First Nations.

I've just been told that this guy has been arrested for trying to put the Mohawk flag on top of the Canadian flag on the Ontario legislature.
This is Canada, folks. It's all "yay multiculturalism, yay tolerance!" until the First Nations start asking for what's theirs.
