I have found four or five corpses of the same type of bug (it looks like a centipede, but smaller and deader) in the same corner of my room. I haven't seen any bugs like this, living or dead, anywhere else in my room or anywhere else in the apartment.

Luna is probably the one killing them, as she has a bug fetish that puts Renfield to shame, but I don't know if she's just finding them in one corner and leaving them there, or finding them all over the place and dragging them over to that one particular corner for some reason.

Luna is weird. I found her hanging off the ground from one of the French doors today trying to catch a fly. What a freak.
Hey, Amanda Marcotte is talking about conspiracy theories, so you should all check it out. My favourite bit:
I’ll admit, I love myself a good conspiracy theory, because the prevalence of them tells you a lot about the way the human mind works. In my opinion, conspiracy theories proliferate because of the tendency of humans to anthropomorphize pretty much everything, including systems. In fact, it rapidly becomes difficult to describe a system without invoking human-like intentionality as a shorthand for process of a system—the most immediate example is how evolutionary processes are described as “selection”. Feminists invoke the same kind of anthropormophizing metaphor when describing the patriarchy.

The problem is that people begin to take metaphorical intention as actual intention. I often have anti-feminists write or leave comments, for instance, where they assume that when I’m describing the patriarchy, I actually mean that men have some sort of secret conspiracy against women, which is not true. But you can see why they might think that, because that’s pretty much how actual conspiracy theories emerge, in the confusion between metaphorical intent and actual intent. To make it even more confusing, the existence of real life conspiracies makes conspiracy theories very plausible. Regardless of how plausible a conspiracy theory is, however, they offer fascinating insight into what the people who believe in them are anxious about.

Also, my dear friends, I have indeed seen the Hitler cat site, and it is utterly hilarious. Consider it blogrolled.
Preliminary results from my last poll indicate that more people dislike goatees than like them. I haven't done a breakdown by gender or sexual orientation (hell, with half of you I don't even know), so I'm not sure if growing one means you'll be less likely to get action, but it's something to keep in mind. Regardless, the consensus even among goatee fans is that they don't work for everyone. Also, thanks to [livejournal.com profile] jaymoh and [livejournal.com profile] kaelynn for teaching me the terms "flavour saver" and "chin caterpillar," respectively.
And since this post is more or less devoid of content owing to a weekend spent mostly doing chores and finishing American Gods (squee!), here's your Ted Nugent Quote of the Day:
If a wildman guffaws in the forest, does he make any noise? Let me assure you, he do.
Um what?

A friend of Rob's thinks we should submit a picture of Snowcrash to the Hitler cat site. I disagree. ;p

Goatee worked for this guy:

But then again almost anything he wore would look good on him. If he had a liking for Himalayan headwear, he'd make that look cool. Personally, I like his frames much better.

My personal favorite is this one:

Ears bent backwards is a sure sign of a Hitler cat. First they get you on their side--then you bring another cat and smack, bam, mrow, "affection for others must be exterminated," choke, choke, choke that other cat, puke on him until he goes away, and you clean up the mess while they poop outside their litterbox. Then they promise you a glorious future till the next war.

I missed posting on the goatees, but I always took them as a symptom of trying too hard to be cool. If you are going to shave 90% of your face, you might as well go all they way.

This, of course, does not apply to the people who can't grow anything else.

Just when I thought you were over this Ted Nugent phase... :P

My putters Jadzia has a penchant for finding, attacking, and killing earthworms. I fouind a pile of her shriveled victims under my bed, of all places! :P

I wasn't crazy about American Gods, and I think what made it less than stellar is pretty typical of all of Neil Gaiman's works. Gaiman's stuffed to the gills with great ideas, but his execution of those ideas is dullllll; I got to the end of Gods and was like "meh. whatever." The only book I've ever really enjoyed by him was Good Omens, and I guarantee that was a result of the Terry Pratchett side of the writing.

Why, that's absurd. Trotsky would never wear a ribbon or suck dorky frames. HIs frames are Joycean. Epiphanic. They are certainly not finger licking good.

I would guess that Luna finds the insects, kills them all over the place, and then deposits them in the corner once she gets bored with their corpses.

Good quote about conspiracy theories.

Nina leaves dead animals behind [livejournal.com profile] moo_cat_city's desk. Although that maybe an attempt to hide them, after being greeted with crys of horror instead of the expected praise when she started delivering them.

It's amazing what a crackhead Ted Nugent can seem like while apparently, doing no drugs, alcohol, and probably not very interesting sex.

But what I'm really commenting here for, is to tell you how much I love your icons. So cute!

wow, the house cetipede actually sounds pretty cool. I'm supa aranoid about bed bugs these days, it's good to know there's a bug that preys on them! We should introduce house centipedes into the SRO's in Sf where folks are having such problems with bed bugs!

The Voice suggests that they are indeed House Centipedes, and both harmless to us and death to other insects. I don't know why Luna thinks you want the carcasses.

Love the icon.

All conspiracy theories are true - except those I disagree with - which are only true insofar as people conspire CONSTANTLY to vex me.

The only acceptable goatee was worn by Casey Kasem's stoned teenage alter-ego.
