Here's a blog saying just that.

The hypothesis may be statistically valid, but if taken as a general rule, I falsify it. I did believe that crap, and I'm only just starting to get over the resulting damage, but Rand never appealed to me in the least.

nuncstans has stated from time to time the hypothesis that every kid with a certain kind of picked-on-nerdiness goes through either a Rand phase or a Trotsky phase. That fits the data slightly better, with the caveat that in North American Anglo-Saxon cultures the Rand variant is far more likely.

This a good question. This is a very good question.

First of all, as a queer, sushi-eating, philosophy-reading, elitist group-thinker who can't get anyone elected, it's very important to take the struggle out of the electoral system (which is homophallogocentric anyone) and move it into an arena where it's possible to be more subversive: academia. Teaching liberation history helps a lot, though it becomes a protracted struggle in the light of the constellation of recent events: Göring, the SALT II pact, and Pokemon. High on the agenda is the feminizing of students and the castration of the hoary western intellectual tradition. Thomas Jefferson will be replaced by bell hooks and Judith Butler. We will not stop until heterosexuality and human rights are overthrown.

I only read halfway through The Fountainhead -- I was going through a hard time in my senior year of high school, when a Republican friend (who interned for Bob Dornan) gave me the book, telling me it would change my life.

Around the part where Roark rapes that newspaper columnist and she gets off on it, I decided I was done reading it. Who was I supposed to root for? Roark or the other architect? I didn't get how it was supposed to change my life.

I hadn't considered the Freudian implications at all—thanks. And there does seem to be an Asperger's epidemic on the internet. Someone should commission a study. Also, I find it unfortunate that the automatic response of the uniformed to these sufferers is, "Your ass has burgers?"

1. Yeah, I was picked on by other kids for being too smart and too small, but I evaded Randoidism. Possibly because my mother would have told me to be tolerent, and my father would have expected me to either shut up or fight back.
   
   I probably was influenced most by reading Heinlein, who, as I saw it promoted the ideals of individual action and responsibility, but, most importantly, emphasized that action and responsibility existed within a social network. The real hero isn't someone who is out for herself, but the person who can ascertain when there is no alternative but to put one's life on the line for one's fellows. I know other people have gotten other things out of Heinlein, but I seem to have been doomed to practical anarcho-syndicalism.
   
   Of course, my sister, a year younger, who wasn't picked on (and was always far more popular than she ever believed), wound up being the Trot.

I mean Homosexual Agenda, actually, but I can barely type the word "homosexual" and I can't say it without giggling. I blame the Religious Right, as it's a perfectly serviceable word, but since they tend to pronounce it "how-mow-sexual" while pulling a facial expression that more or less resembles that of someone who has just bitten into a lemon as if it's something terribly, terribly dirty, I must rely on other terms.

You only think that the Canadian Women's Rugby Team is the hottest group of people because you haven't encountered the Toronto Wobblies Soccer Team. RAWR!
