I keep being reminded throughout the day. I mean, it's pretty hard to avoid the subject. Especially when the Board sends you that general form-letter about how to talk to children about mass shootings. Seriously, that's a thing that they have to do, because the NRA is out of control.

I don't really have anything to add that hasn't been said by wiser people. This one hits a lot closer to home than most senseless mass shootings, though. I just feel sick and sad and furious and queasy, somehow.

As—once again, wiser—people have pointed out, there is no point in asking America to get its shit together. If a school full of six-year-olds wasn't a wake-up call, a club full of queer Latinx who most of their leaders seem to want dead anyway is hardly going to stir them into action. Fucking fuck. That's it, that's my contribution. Fuck all of this shit.

There was some kind of incident at UofT today. Turned out to be nothing, but multiple buildings locked down and so on. I don't usually feel unsafe, but days like these feel pretty unsafe, y'know?

Anyway here are my cats being gay and cheering me up:

While making/eating dinner, [livejournal.com profile] zingerella and I discussed several perplexing problems. We felt that the internets might be able to help us answer them.

1. Would Dollhouse have been better (or, more to the point, able to grapple with the questions Whedon wanted to ask) if all of the characters except Adele were genderswapped?

2. What would happen if Angel had a calling to the priesthood?

And the most troublesome, and thus important, of all:

3. Can a cyborg perform baptisms or last rites in an emergency?

Help us, internets. You're our only hope.

ETA: [livejournal.com profile] zingerella adds, "Okay, but what about a replicant?"

I saw the X-Files movie with utterly no expectations. I don't know if a lot of you know this, but I was—surprise!—completely obsessed with the X-Files when it was on the air, right up until it really went downhill and my eyes were starting to hurt from rolling so often.

cut for spoilers and people who rightly don't care )

Has anyone else seen Cambridge Spies? I watched three out of four episodes last night and it was several dozen different varieties of awesome.

I <3 the Beeb.

Frank Sinatra will turn you gay.

I'm surprised it took them this long, but some fundie group has finally compiled a list of bands that will make you gay. Neither Kids on TV nor Hidden Cameras made the cut, leaving k.d. lang to represent Canada, but Elton John and the Indigo Girls are on there twice, on account of the fact that they are really, really gay.

complete list under cut )

Um, the Stones? Really?

The non-gay list is a lot shorter, and is "safe" by virtue of being utterly unlistenable. Except for Cyndi Lauper, I guess.

Shall we make suggestions? I'm on a Magnetic Fields kick lately.

Congratulations. We made him pack up his toys and go home. More or less.

1. Has anyone proposed the following explanation for Randroids? You know when you were a little kid, and bullies picked on you, and your mom said that they were just picking on you because they were jealous? Randroids were the kids who actually believed that.

2. What do you have written in your Gay Agenda?

Link of the day, courtesy of [livejournal.com profile] trollprincess.

It's your typical Levitican homophobic bile, made a million times more entertaining with one line: "The young ladies who are fans of Gyllenhaal and Ledger do not want to see them making out."

I'd wager that "Jared" does not have much contact with young heterosexual women, because I'm quite sure that this isn't true. Granted, I have no statistics to back me up, but I think most "young ladies" would want to see that. (If you're wondering, I saw the trailer in the company of a (mostly) heterosexual gentleman, neither of us knowing what it was about. Neither of us were particularly inclined to see it based on the trailer, but we both agreed that Gyllenhaal and Ledger looked very pretty together.)

The cowardly wanker has now turned off comments. Awww. You can still continue to flame his colleague, in a post defending the original post, not that I would ever encourage such behaviour.
