Normally, I don't post about fannish things beyond the odd Doctor Who or Heroes squee, but I know a lot of you are fen and enraged about the latest pearl-clutching purge-a-thon. Beyond that, the deletion of communities and users with "illegal interests" does affect all of us, and is part of a greater trend of people who can't distinguish between fiction and reality fucking over people who can. (I counted 11 of my own interests that could loosely be considered endorsing illegal activity, ranging from arming poets to sex with the dead.) They are deleting the journals of rape survivors and Nabokov discussion groups.

springheel_jack linked to this call for a day of e-protest on Friday. I encourage everyone to participate, and this is why you may see a poorly written OOC Fred/George/Giant Squid MPreg fic* from me in a few days.

Also, while LJ hunts down the yaoi people, it still won't tell me why my comment notification hasn't worked for months. I get the following error notification when I try to track comments:

Totally unrelated to the Junior Anti-Sex League, but it's really annoying.

Oh, I just write a fair bit of things in my various stories that is could be considered . . . no, that is pornographic. In my writings, I have a belief that sex is important to the emotional development of the characters, as anyone even passingly acquainted with sex knows, and that you learn a great deal about a person when you fuck them. I think the hesitation that writers have to fade to black with sex (especially when they describe every bit of violence with bullet-time, close-up description) is silly, taking away one of the most emotionally intense subjects from their authorial repertoire. I think it's juvenile to avoid graphic depictions of sex.

I can't write decent sex scenes worth a damn, mind you. It's usually a vocabulary problem—I have no problem reading decent sex scenes.

As far as I know, they're going on the basis of LJ interests. So if you have "rape" or "incest" as an interest, they don't really care hy.

There's a good summary here. Basically, LJ got a complaint from a group calling itself "Warriors for Innocent" and is deleting people and communities that have taboo user interests and content. Most of the targets seem to be fanfic writers, but they've also hit rape survivor journals and so on.

I don't know if it's updated or not, but the person posting that said that it was rumor that accounts with "rape" or "incest" interests were being delete, same with a couple of the fanfic communities. I wonder if they'll go after bdsm/kink communities next?

The WFI people are flag-waving homophobic über-conservatives (check out the blog called "Sues [sic] Views"). You can bet they'll go after the BDSM/kink communities if LJ caves to them on this.

Out of Character (both for me and the characters), Fred/George (Weasley, making said sex underage and incestuous), Giant Squid (because there has to be tentacle porn), Male Pregnancy (just...ewww).

Are Fred and George a Harry Potter thing? Anyway that is indeed hilarious. Male Preg is, to me, about the least hot thing imaginable, but I actually like that people find things hot that I find silly and ridiculous.

There must be slash for everything. Fred/Barney? I wish to think of more silly ones. Perhaps, just having finished Jude the Obscure, I should write some really somber Jude/Phillotson slash.

Yep. And—people write a lot of porn about them. As for MPreg, I don't really know why people write it, as it theoretically results in ass-babies (eww), but who am I to question the delicious array of human sexual diversity?

I think those WOI people have got these things mixed up.

I personally get squicked to the core by any fic containing pre-pubescent sex, but I consider the writing of such fic to be something that consenting adults do, and thus I tolerate it. I don't go out searching for it so I can tolerate it more often, but I have no problem with the fact it exists.

Anyhow, I'll be blagging about it soon.

I think I actually mentioned fanfic in that post. There's an incredible amount of "oh God why would you write that?" fic out there, but it's easy to draw a sharp line between fiction and art and actual child porn. WFI and LJ/6A seem incapable of drawing this line, which is even more disturbing than that one where Dumbledore gets Snape pregnant.

Also, WFI are apparently a bunch of fascists, which is interesting.
