Education Act
R.S.O. 1990, CHAPTER E.2

Duties of teacher

264. (1) It is the duty of a teacher and a temporary teacher,

[...]

religion and morals

(c) to inculcate by precept and example respect for religion and the principles of Judaeo-Christian morality and the highest regard for truth, justice, loyalty, love of country, humanity, benevolence, sobriety, industry, frugality, purity, temperance and all other virtues;

Besides everything else that is wrong with the above paragraph, "Judaeo-Christian" is one of those terms that should not exist.

I dunno if this is related but, back in 1993, I got a summer job working as a student aide at the school superintendent's office in California. Included in my human resources packet, along with tax forms, was a loyalty oath.

I did sign it because I was 15 and needed a summer job and working in an office beat fast food. Basically it was agreeing that I was not currently or recently in any plots to overthrow the government.

I kinda like the term Abrahamic, which is broader in scope.

I don't think I'm qualified to teach sobriety, frugality, or purity to anyone.

Yeah fuck-a-Judeo-Christian. That shit don't exist.

Also, we aren't required to agree to that kind of thing down ehre. Huzzah. Something we do right.

Well basically, if we show up intoxicated in a way that impairs our job, only then are we tested. And can't pose for porn. Also, bad words are restricted in school.

But we don't take a loyalty or morality oath. The U.S. pledge of allegiance is not mandatory.

That's what I meant.

i'm surprised ppl still use phrases like this in 1990
the highest regard for truth, justice, loyalty, love of country, humanity, benevolence, sobriety, industry, frugality, purity, temperance and all other virtues;

when i first read i thought it's some legistlation from the 1800's.

Well.... looks like you have ur work cut out for you! first step is to get this act changed

I would claim that that would be an unwise use of [livejournal.com profile] sabotabby's powers.
I doubt they had any legislation concerning teachers here in the 1800's: public education is a relatively new thing.

I've often wondered if the people who use that term regularly actually understand anything about either religion.

Oh, and I'm taking this icon, too :-D

I signed a loyalty oath to teach once. It was for my first job out of university teaching Latin at a little Reformed school. Never again. I felt terribly guilty. I had to really deconstruct that statement to make it palatable.

Now, Islam acknowledges its Jewish and Christian antecedents.

So it must mean sharia is the way to go.

I am a firm believer in malicious compliance.

Buddho-Satanistic.

Zoroastrio-Presbyterean.

Oh don't mind me, I'm just meaninglessly squishing religions together.

When confronted with a form with a slot for religion somewhere in my undergraduate career, I blithely entered "Zen-Druid".

The Fremen in Dune were Zensunni, if I remember correctly.

Um, hi, I don't remember how I got here, but do you have an icon policy? Because your icon on this post is awesome, and I'd like to know if I can use it, or create a similar one with the same text.
