I had grave reservations about an adaptation of Blindness, as it's one of my favourite books and I imagine that it's pretty near unadaptable. But—it's going to be directed by the guy who did City of God. And the trailer suggests that they're not losing any of the allegorical elements that made the book so powerful. So my expectations are high, oh yes.

We do not, however, need another film about the gorram Battle of Seattle. Especially one that looks like it's going to not just suck, but actually suck the entire universe into an epic ocean of its own fail.

Thank god the got the part right about all of us following the leader with the bad facial hair. I was afraid they'd leave that part out.

hahahahaha. so excited for both. i disagree, i think the time is quite ripe for a satire of the battle of seattle. i'll have to grab a rip off the internets or wait for your retelling because i'd probably be laughing too hard in the theater and get kicked out.

i think "...but what about tomorrow?!" is going to be my new "this is sparta!".

i can't wait for the credits: "anarchist #1, anarchist #2". i wonder what an anarchist extra role pays these days?

see, i didn't even have to watch this revolution because of your services! you should start a company like those "clean edit" christian companies that take all the good parts out of the movies so christians can still be hip and moral at the same time, except the complete opposite.

you know i meant to look up red dawn on the internets because i was wondering why the hell they re-released the original dvd but i figured that it was so unlikely that i forgot about it. i wish it could be one long in-joke about bad patriotic films like the first unintentionally was but somehow i think this one will be just as accidentally satirical with bigger explosions and a flashy new update from the cold war to the war on terror.

I had grave reservations about an adaptation of Blindness, as it's one of my favourite books and I imagine that it's pretty near unadaptable.

Joseph Heller's Catch 22 was absolutely unadaptable, but they did an awesome job with the casting: Alan Arkin as Yossarian, Orson Wells as General Dreedle, ... If only they had got Henry Fonda to play Major Major Major, but I imagine he was too old to play his doppleganger by then. Personality-wise, Bob Newhart was a good substitute. I would almost recommend seeing the film first so that the reader can keep up with all the characters.

So, does all this movie posting mean that you have finally come out of the tunnel and into the sunlight?

'blindness' is getting rave reviews and i can't wait to see it.
as to 'battle in seattle,' it's an as yet untested director and an interseting cast.
i'm pretty ambivalent about it, at this point, especially since i don't expect it to portray anything similar to the reality of it.

also! there's a really interesting article in the new issue of 'film comment' about revolutionary action and radical struggle in cinema, in honour of the 40th anniversary of may '68.

I'm really curious about "Blindness." I really don't think a movie can match the horror I experienced reading it, nor capture the depth of depravity that Saramago presented to us. There's something uniquely disturbing about the inhumanity that he created, and taking it out of the novel and onto a screen, I think it would lose a lot. Also, I just have a hard time imagining a director being allowed to create scenes that would accurately convey the emotions. It would, perhaps, be possible to create the film, but to do it successfully, would it be a film that one could actually show?

My curiosity has certainly been piqued.

I cannot help but think the scene in the sanitorium is going to be a bit like the french-italian-british flick King of Hearts. Prove me wrong b/c that would not be like the book at all and that book was gravely scary!

Blindness has a phenomenal cast. Should i read it first or see the movie first? the Seattle movie looks hilarious, i bet you could make a drinking game out of it.
