I had grave reservations about an adaptation of Blindness, as it's one of my favourite books and I imagine that it's pretty near unadaptable. But—it's going to be directed by the guy who did City of God. And the trailer suggests that they're not losing any of the allegorical elements that made the book so powerful. So my expectations are high, oh yes.
We do not, however, need another film about the gorram Battle of Seattle. Especially one that looks like it's going to not just suck, but actually suck the entire universe into an epic ocean of its own fail.

Date: 2008-05-19 11:14 pm (UTC)Joseph Heller's Catch 22 was absolutely unadaptable, but they did an awesome job with the casting: Alan Arkin as Yossarian, Orson Wells as General Dreedle, ... If only they had got Henry Fonda to play Major Major Major, but I imagine he was too old to play his doppleganger by then. Personality-wise, Bob Newhart was a good substitute. I would almost recommend seeing the film first so that the reader can keep up with all the characters.
So, does all this movie posting mean that you have finally come out of the tunnel and into the sunlight?
