Why does Rambo have an anchor in Afghanistan? Because he is prepared.
HOLY SHIT IT'S A RAMBO COLOURING BOOK. Click on that link and there's MORE. Your mission, if you choose to accept it, is to download those and colour them in. Hahahaha. The 80s were so strange.*
2. If you have a few hours to kill, check out The Power of Nightmares so we can discuss it. It's pretty good; a parallel history of Islamic terrorism and neoconservatism. I think it's too soft on Nixon and Kissinger (you know your cast is pure evil when Kissinger is the good guy) but it's fascinating stuff.
3. If you are artistically talented, you should participate in Bruce Schneier's TSA logo contest.
4. And if you are a web designer, you might know about this already, but if not, check out Accessify. I ran across it in my attempt to find a resource on accessible web design that's, well, accessible to teenagers. This has tutorials and plain language, which the W3C pages, while great, do not.
* Tagged "rambo iii" because apparently I only have one Rambo tag and it's oddly specific.

Date: 2010-01-12 05:42 am (UTC)It is neither a grappling hook nor an anchor. Remember: Rambo is a tough guy. He is such a tough guy that in his house is a rattoon. This is like a spittoon, except that Rambo chews rats. Rambo is that tough. The object in his hand is in fact a dildo for really tough guys. Rambo is going to use it without lube. Rambo is that tough. It is also not flared at the base. Rambo is that tough. But it has a rope attached, because Rambo is also not totally dumb.
Rambo is ready, baby.

Date: 2010-01-12 07:55 am (UTC)Watching documentaries about US history wrt race, I find myself playing a game of "count the number of points in history where, if we'd just stopped crapping all over African-American's then, we'd all be in much better shape now." With this, I get the feeling I'm going to have two counts going simultaneously: counting how many times torture turned out to be even worse strategically than it was tactically, and counting how many times neocon leaders made the mistake of drinking their own Kool-Aid.
So, ah, American Exceptionalism was basically engineered (or at least deliberately enhanced) by some folks who thought it would be good for us? (Funny how when liberals propose attempting social change in the direction of greater tolerance and appreciation of diversity, American conservatives I know are quick to shout, "Social engineering is evil!", if the whole NeoCon movement is based on this notion of scuplting US society as portrayed in this video. Ah, projection ...)
But really, this might have been a bad night to watch this, for me.

Date: 2010-01-12 12:43 pm (UTC)No one could accuse him of being a feminist, but to make it seems as though misogyny is the cornerstone of his whole political philosophy? I'm not seeing it.
I do like that it focuses on Egypt, though. Since the country hasn't had an Islamist revolution (yet? ha) it seems like its intellectual history gets written out of too many how-we-got-here summaries. You have U.S. activists talking about Iraq and Afghanistan who haven't heard of Nasser, much less Qutb. Wtf. I also like ("like") that it talks about the role of torture in shaping the movement over time. If anything they downplayed that.
(Still watching...)
