If you can make it out to Einstein On the Beach at Luminato, you should, because OHDEARGOD it is incredible. Four-and-a-half hours of (as I put it on The Other Place) epic minimalism, with mindblowing staging and musical virtuosity. And at the end, who should come out on stage but ZOMG PHILIP GLASS HIMSELF.

Geeking out hardcore right about now.

I remember in the 80s I was taking the subway home and at the Columbus Circle station I ran into my cousin Sara and cousins Amy and Ted; they were going to see Koyaanisquatsi and conveniently had another ticket! And Philip Glass was conducting the live orchestra himself while the film rolled.

Actually, he (Philip Glass) used to live in my neighborhood in the 80s and made no secret of it; I ran into him several times during that time, usually on 1st Avenue.

I have heard it (somewhat abridged) in concert once, but might go to BAM in the fall, as I think they're reviving the Robert Wilson staging, the original. I have run into Ph Glass thrice in New York and just sort of talked myself out of saying anything to him because what the hell am I going to say?
