Municipal follies

He voted against a bunch of community development grants. Here are the people that the Honourable Wifebeater opposes helping:
• People with disabilities and their families
• Immigrant and refugee women facing domestic violence
• Teenagers in Jane and Finch
• Tamil youth in Scarborough with drug problems
• Immigrant Caribbean women
Fortunately, most of the people on council aren't complete idiots so the $16 million in grants, which will support 306 projects, passed.
This is actually not the top local outrage of the day. That honour goes to deputy mayor Doug Holyday, who induced rage by suggesting that the city is a bad place to raise children. Way to sum up the disconnect between the suburban drooling idiots who are running the city, and the vast majority of people who actually live here. I listened to the debate on the drive to school this morning and it was pretty hilarious, with all of the councillors basically going, "Are you fucking kidding me?"
