I was honestly thinking of answering this one when I saw it up there. I don't think I could do any better than you.

That said, honestly? When I went to look at the answers, 3/24 (which is still too high, of course) apparently said anything remotely idiotic. The rest were very clear that the autism thing is stupid, the mccarthy is stupid and that vaccines are good and save lives.

And I am reminded of why I like Livejournal more than theFacebooks.

It pisses me off that it's even presented as a question.

Not to mention the whole "Do you believe..." part. What I believe?! How the fuck--what do my beliefs on the matter--WHAT DOES THE SCIENCE SAY. Oh well then LET'S ALL DO THAT.

Asking twelve families at your kid's birthday party != a scientific study! Hey! You know what else all those kids with autism had in common? I'm willing to bet they'd all eaten at McDonald's. And if they hadn't, then their mothers did.

OMG U GAIS THAT MEANS MCDONALD'S CAUSES AUTISM QUICK DON'T EAT THERE DERP DERP.

GRAHGRAHRAGERAGEFUCKRIGHTOFFYOUFUCKINGMORONSGROWHALFABRAINALREADYGRAHH!!!!!

Meanwhile, here's me pissed off over in this corner because the smallpox vaccine isn't offered anymore, so while I have it, my kids don't. You know what the turn-around time for making more vaccine for that is? About six months. You know what it will take to unleash it again? Bulldozer digging up someone who died of it.

Now guess how fast it'll rip through a population of people with no exposure to it. Oh no wait we don't need to guess because we already know how that one ends up. >:[

SO HAPPY to hear that some doctors are now simply refusing to see people who aren't vaccinated and that some schools won't let them attend. I understand the concern of parents (BUT THEN DO THE FUCKING RESEARCH IT'S NOT HARD GOOGLE IS RIGHT. THERE.) who don't want to risk their kid getting some kind of disorder and I suppose that it may arguably be your right to choose to be a fucking moron not vaccinate, but guess what? You do not get to then choose to expose my kids to whatever horrific little bugs are incubating in your kid.

You don't get to undermine the immunity of the herd just because you can't understand something as basic as sampling size and proper, peer-reviewed scientific studies.

God damn. We have people devoting decades of their lives to learning their craft and decades more refining and practising it, but hey, Jenny McCarthy says they're wrong, so let's all go with that. Fuckfuckfuckityfuck. Morons. So much rage.

Came across a comment yesterday (I think on Cracked) that calling them "anti-vaxxers" made them sound too legitimate and that instead we should call them "pro-disease".

Let's all do that.

I'd like a vaccination against bullshit conspiracy theories.

I'd go for that one, too.

And then load it into dart guns and shoot it at people.

I endorse this plan.

I think the problem is with the phrase "personally believe," as really when it comes to matters of fact, personal belief should not be invited to come into it.

Of course there are plenty of matters of fact where people do not have all the evidence required to make a sensible judgement, but even so, the question should be along the lines of, "have you looked in detail at all the existing evidence and made a considered judgement? Are you qualified to do so? If not, have you asked those who are?" sort of thing...

I am perfectly ok with people being sceptical about what governments/other organisations tell them and wanting to check for themselves, but not with then checking with new age nonsense websites instead of scientific research papers, for example!

We weren't taught things like that specifically, but I think they are meant to come up in subjects like history maybe? There should be part of the science curriculum addressing the problem of confused and misleading information.

we are all being taught that all opinions are equally valid and true.

Bah. To which I offer this: http://www.shortpacked.com/2007/comic/book-4/10-a-talking-car-joins-the-cast/opinions/
