sabotabby: (books!)
Just finished: Out of the Ruins, edited by Preston Grassman. As I mentioned last time, this is a much-needed collection of short stories about rebuilding after various sorts of apocalypses. Like any anthology, it's hit and miss in terms of quality, but more hits than misses, with a talented roster of sci-fi and fantasy authors. My favourite was Nick Mamatas' "The Man You Flee at Parties," which is a weird, inventive tale about future economies (full disclosure, he's a friend of mine, but he's a friend I met because he writes weird, inventive things).

Currently reading: Blood Sports by Eden Robinson. I thought I'd read everything she wrote but apparently not. This is an older book about a young couple who fall afoul of a sociopathic drug dealer in Vancouver's Downtown East Side. I saw it described as BC noir, and that fits—it's gritty, disjointed, and violent. I'm not sure if I'm enjoying it as such, in that there is a lot more graphic torture than I expected, but it's very well-written.
