[Error: unknown template qotd]It's weird because I'm both artsy and nerdy, but I don't really care for animation that much. I find it hard to emotionally connect with animated characters. Which is unfortunate, as I know there are a lot of really great animated shows out there, but I tend to watch about an episode or two before giving up. Also, the main characters are by and large children, and I get enough of kids in my life without needing to watch shows about them.

(I'm slightly better with movies, because shorter and also Miyazaki exists and is spectacular.)

I really enjoyed Fullmetal Alchemist. I think it had enough of the elements I really like in fiction to keep my interest. It also has the horrible thing with the cute kid and the adorable dog getting fused together and dying horribly in like the second or third episode, which remains the most grimdark thing I've ever seen in an animated show, and thus won my respect.

I also really liked Trigun because it was weird as shit, though I almost didn't watch it owing to ugly animation.

Yes I know I should watch Legend of Korra and Steven Universe.

Thank you for mentioning the kid/dog thing, which serves as an excellent warning for me that I should never, ever, under any circumstances watch this show. I have a hard time with bad things happening to kids OR animals, and when you combine both into one, well...

Hmmm I think you probably wouldn't like Steven Universe anyway. Or it'd take you a really long time to get to a point in the show where you might even potentially start to like it, haha.

Korra maybe you'd like, but I think possibly more likely you'd be annoyed at the wasted opportunities for political plot complexity heh.

*shrugs* u could still give it a try someday if u wanted, that's just my gut feeling! i think SU is a wonderful show (with a terrible fandom *cough cough*) but it's very ...cartoony, for lack of a better word? it's not a thing i'd recommend 2 some1 who usually isn't into cartoons! (and otoh i would super recommend it 2 anyone who DOES love cartoons!) unlike FMA:B, which i think is often one of those "anime for ppl who don't like anime" things. my parents aren't in2 anime and they dig FMA:B haha.

i never loved korra altho it was ok. i liked a:tla better. but i think u might dig the more steampunk-y feel of korra, and the fact that the characters are slightly older. but yeah, they tried to set up these interesting political situations but then they just kept making everything very simplified black/white morality in the end and it was quite narratively disappointing, imo.

you mightttt or might not like korra better then haha. tbh i found the korra characters more irritating (i didn't really find many atla characters irritating), but i'm sure it's that diff ppl are irritated by diff things haha. the korra characters are overall much more concerned with ROMANCE DRAMA. b/c they're in their mid to l8 teens, whereas the atla characters were more preadolescents to mid-teens. there's also more focus on the adult characters in korra too tho, esp in some of the l8r seasons. and the last season of the show had a big time skip so then every1 was in their l8 teens or early 20s or something.

Miyazaki aside (who wins everything forever), "Samurai Jack" is amazing, absolutely fantastic. Also the only cartoon I know where Odin, Horus, and Krishna team up to find evil, so. Plus that episode ("The Birth of Evil", 2-parter) also has Sleipnir, so, awesome.

"Dexter's Lab" is also great fun, and makes me sad every time I see "Dexter" is on and that's not it.

Hey, both are by Genndy Tartarovsky. Probably not coincidence. He's pretty awesome, I guess.

Oh yeah, Dexter's Lab was wonderful! Powerpuff Girls not as much, in my opinion, unfortunately. I think Genndy Tartakovsky was involved in that one too.

I'm the same way, minus watching Fullmetal Alchemist and Trigun because I don't think I'd have the attention span for that either.

Cowboy beebop.

One character acts a bit chidish cause shes autistic, or insane. But its really not kid stuff at all.

Because it's generally pretty hard for me to tell characters apart in live-action shows, and because I grew up watching anime and other animation with my parents, I generally prefer animated stuff over live-action. But I watch precious little of either.

There was a Portugese animated series about kids looking for the cities of gold in South America that was on when I was a kid. I have a lot of fond memories of that, as well as Robotech, though I'm not sure how well either would hold up now. One of my favorite more recent shows might be The Tick. (For some values of recent.)

I really enjoyed Hellsing, but it was only 13 episodes long. Fantastic psychedelic animation, and I always enjoy Anime versions of England.

ETA: I mean look at this fucking guy
