Answer for question 4571.
Dec. 15th, 2015 01:01 pm[Error: unknown template qotd]It's weird because I'm both artsy and nerdy, but I don't really care for animation that much. I find it hard to emotionally connect with animated characters. Which is unfortunate, as I know there are a lot of really great animated shows out there, but I tend to watch about an episode or two before giving up. Also, the main characters are by and large children, and I get enough of kids in my life without needing to watch shows about them.
(I'm slightly better with movies, because shorter and also Miyazaki exists and is spectacular.)
I really enjoyed Fullmetal Alchemist. I think it had enough of the elements I really like in fiction to keep my interest. It also has the horrible thing with the cute kid and the adorable dog getting fused together and dying horribly in like the second or third episode, which remains the most grimdark thing I've ever seen in an animated show, and thus won my respect.
I also really liked Trigun because it was weird as shit, though I almost didn't watch it owing to ugly animation.
Yes I know I should watch Legend of Korra and Steven Universe.

Date: 2015-12-15 10:32 pm (UTC)i never loved korra altho it was ok. i liked a:tla better. but i think u might dig the more steampunk-y feel of korra, and the fact that the characters are slightly older. but yeah, they tried to set up these interesting political situations but then they just kept making everything very simplified black/white morality in the end and it was quite narratively disappointing, imo.

Date: 2015-12-15 03:12 pm (UTC)"Dexter's Lab" is also great fun, and makes me sad every time I see "Dexter" is on and that's not it.
Hey, both are by Genndy Tartarovsky. Probably not coincidence. He's pretty awesome, I guess.

Date: 2015-12-15 08:03 pm (UTC)There was a Portugese animated series about kids looking for the cities of gold in South America that was on when I was a kid. I have a lot of fond memories of that, as well as Robotech, though I'm not sure how well either would hold up now. One of my favorite more recent shows might be The Tick. (For some values of recent.)
