Thanks very much for writing to share your thoughts on our new vision for education in Ontario, Education that Works for You. This vision was built through feedback from people just like you, all over Ontario.
I am pretty sure people like me were specifically not consulted.
The largest consultation in Ontario history allowed us to hear what needed to be improved, as well as what should stay the same. We listened.
To whom?
You told us class size was important. We listened. We have protected existing class sizes for Kindergarten to Grade 3 – and only added on student to the cap for Grades 4 – 8. For our high school students the average class size total moves to 28 students.
Which means classes of 45 in order to balance out very small classes, such as those for students with developmental disabilities, and non-teaching staff such as guidance and teacher-librarians.
Note the typo, by the way; that's in the letter itself. Not that I would normally harsh on typos—I make them all the time!—but if you are going to talk about the necessity of cuts to education and then get sloppy with your own proofreading, I'm sure as hell going to side-eye you.
These changes will be implemented over four years so that schools and boards have time to adjust. Reductions in teaching staff will be through retirements and attrition – not one teacher’s job will be lost.
Jobs have already been lost.
Our focus will always be on the students – Ontario’s Government for the People will make sure that students get the best education they can.
Assuming that they're rich and can afford elite private schools, where the average class size is 15-17 students.
Thank you again for contacting me.

Hopefully not for much longer.
