Kitty birthday!

It's the girls' birthday (well, it's Cocoa's, but I celebrate them on the same day since I don't know when Sabot's is). Cocoa is 15 and Sabot is still unknown years old.

They got meat cake and toys and you get pictures of them celebrating.











On a scale of "normal" to "eventually found dead and half-eaten by her cats," how bad is it that this was the thing I was most looking forward to today?

Sabot is so hard to photograph (most photos of her are black blurs) but occasionally I catch her hilarious facial expressions.

Aww sweet babies. I love how they actually eat from one dish and don't murder one another, I've never known any cats who would do that.

My girl, I just found out, is 12 one of these days, somewhere this month (we got her as a kitten of "about six weeks" so her date of birth is approximate but we know it pretty closely), and I want to make her some kind of birthday thingy and Dude thinks that's nuts. I think I'm going to anyway though! She doesn't even understand treats because we're the worst cat-parents, but I'm totally going to make her a weird tuna thing that she'll scarf and barf probably, because I am a doting skin mom.

Actually I think it would be fun to get a cake for ourselves, but maybe that's just mercenary of me.

Skin mom! That's at least 50% cute, 50% disturbing.

They have been known to try to murder each other, but weirdly the swatting happened over toys. Cocoa doesn't know how to play but she gets annoyed when Sabot does.

Oh we call one another skin-parents (and Dude's mom, who catsits sometimes, is "Skin-Grandma") precisely because it is the creepy, but logical, corollary to "fur-babies".
Because, like, that's creepy, and yet, that's how we live, so we may as well roll with it.

Listen if I die in the house and she's gotta eat me, she's gotta eat me, that's how it is. I accept this. We sometimes joke that we'll know she loves us if she waits for us to be actually dead before she starts eating us.

Um, in my experience, that feeling is "typical" but I don't know about "normal". BUT LOOK HOW HAPPY THEY ARE SURELY ONLY THE BEST KIND OF PERSON WOULD BE EXCITED TO MAKE TWO ADORABLE FELINES THAT HAPPY

The thing that brings me the biggest joy in life is making them happy. Both of them had very tragic lives before I got them and were super skittish and terrified, so when they purr, I know they mean it.

Awwwwww my heart. Cats are so good. And it is such q joy to be considered Worthy Staff for them.

I dunno my cats' full backstories, but purrs are easy to come by in my house. As is entitled screaming. They're basically teenagers. I don't appreciate the little one yelling at me in the morning on the days when she decides she deserves a second breakfast, but I'm pretty happy that she's come to trust us enough to take our love for granted.

Normal, they are a-fuckin-dorable. Please tell them they are great and very successful at being cats.

I should pick our cat a birthday. Maybe then I'd be able to remember how old she is without counting back leases/roommates.

They are failcats but they are very successful at being cute.

Admittedly, I post the birthday pics so that I can remember their ages, because otherwise the only time I remember is when we're due for a vet check-up and they ask me and I look like a neglectful pet owner until we look it up in the file.

I'm not gonna lie, this is very "eventually found dead and half-eaten by her cats" but I say this in a good way that indicates good life choices.

Even though you don't know Sabot's age, do you have a guesstimation or something? They are so cute and I love Sabot's little heart necklace.

They think she's maybe around 8? But it's hard to tell. She was at least 2 or 3 when I got her but they said she might just be a very kittenish older cat at the time. Now that it's been awhile and she hasn't slowed down, they're estimating that she was a young cat with bad teeth rather than an old cat with a lot of energy.

Oooh she's around my younger cat's age! For some reason I thought Sabot was much younger because what is time, how did these last few years go by?? Then again, I'm always inclined to think cats are precious newborn babies, which they are and I'll hear nothing to the contrary, thanks.

She is very bouncy and not very mature, so she comes off as quite kittenish. Whereas I am quite sure Cocoa was born a dignified old lady.
