There is snow. On the ground. This is most unacceptable.

Wait, Canada isn't an eternal pine tree encrusted year-round winter wonderland? Media lied to me!

In Canada? In November? I'm shocked I tell you, shocked. When You're Goddess-Emperor, I trust you'll ban that sort of thing?

I concur. I saw the forecast picture of the arctic blast and I am against it.

Right? We've already had quite a few inches this past week, and now we get "severe weather watch/warning" from today through tues (except, apparently sun/sat). GAH!

This is November in Canada. The Toronto-Ottawa corridor was bound to get its share. Wait a few decades, I fear, and you'll see that change happen.

I can't get any friends here to sign on for it! I don't know if I've recited the selling points of El Paso to you since you're not from the US but it is warm, the houses are quite cheap, there's good Mexican food (New Mexican rather than Tex Mex because it's basically New Mexico), and it's in a landscape that is rather majestic if you like desert which I do. We didn't exactly find a neighborhood that felt like The Interesting Neighborhood on our one day visit there but who knows.

Well, right; I guess I meant US friends who are already saddled with our most especially charmant brand of fuck you capitalism. And I'm always like 17-83% joking about El Paso. Honestly these days I don't know where I'm supposed to move to avoid being globally warmed to death in my 60s.

Places that are warm enough that we won't freeze now, but not so warm that we will catch fire in 20 years is kinda tricky to find.

I think the Pacific northwest is an ok bet for this but one would probably want to stick with Portland or points east in case of that earthquake in the New Yorker story a couple years back that's going to turn everything west of I-5 into rubble. You just can't win. The best strategy is to be born 30 years before we were.

I'm never 100% joking about it either but I always end up concluding that even the people I know who sound slightly into it want to live somewhere else (friends in Boston talk about Vermont or somewhere like that. Vermont is pretty and very cold.) My main thing is not getting snowed on a lot, but in the US that means either the coasts, which are out for their own reasons (west: expensive; east: hurricanes) or the south, and most people see the electoral maps in the south and balk. So I'm not joking about it but I know it won't happen unless I'm in some other phase of my life and things are a lot different. Honestly at the moment what I'm mostly hoping for is some kind of housing crash. I'm sure that'll only come with some severe economic downturn that is horrible for lots of people, so probably I shouldn't be hoping for it, but housing is complete insanity now. Houses are for rich people. Ratty little houses in ratty little town I used to look at for fantasy shopping are now 150K.

Sorry, TLDR...I was looking at houses in Atlanta this morning less as a part of the friend compound fantasy than a "seriously, where are we moving next?" question.

Had an exercise in class about whether we would buy a house in another country... My answer is usually that I would love to have a house in Toronto, but I'd only live there from June to August.
