On an unrelated note, the only fashion trend more annoying than hipsters wearing Che shirts is yuppies wearing CBGB shirts. How are we doing on those photos?

I finally took off the Che patch that I had made because he was getting out of control and everywhere and worse than big brother.

Worse than yuppies wearing CBGB shirts? omgi'msopunkRAWKblink182issohardCORE teen-agers wearing CBGB shirts. And only because "The Ramones" played there, that's it. Nobody else.

Also, did I hear right that CBGB was closing down, or is that some fantasy I made up to make me sad?

I heard CBGB didn't pay its rent. And then there was massive protests. I don't think it's being shut down now.

We were there on the last day of its legal occupancy of its location. They're being evicted. There's been massive support, even the mayor supports them and has been lobbying behind the scenes, but the owner (a non-profit helping homeless people!) is quite adament that they be out, so now CBGBs is taking this to court.

I thought CBGB was not happy with large rent increases from years ago and was suing the owners over it. The owner said that the lease would not be renewed. I haven't checked on the status recently.

Now that I walk around and have my camera on the ready, the Chè shirts have all disappeared. (well, or a couple days of cole weather scared them off.)

damn. I wish I would've gotten a photo of that stupid rich woman. when i worked as a cashier at staples a woman who was clearly rich walked up with a che shirt on. I asked her if she liked Che Guevara, and she was so rich she felt that she didn't really have to answer me. So she grunted or something and looked away and then threw her money on the counter. I wanted to punch her, but thought better of it.

Che Guevara, in addition to being a t-shirt icon, was also a sadist and a murderer. He personally executed members of his militia w(while fighting with Castro)for "disloyalty" and set up the Cuban equivalent of gulags where dissidents, homosexuals, journalists, deserters, librarians, and anyone else that the regime considers dangerous (including a few anarchists too), even today.

Well, he was definitely an authoritarian. And obviously he killed people, as every military leader is prone to doing. I have a problem with that article, though: Discounting the entire Cuban revolution as useless is about as honest as uncritically glorifying Castro's regime. Also, blaming Che for the failures of the revolution -- particularly the present-day failings -- is a bit disingenuous. Even if he laid some of the groundwork in place, he's hardly to blame for human rights abuses happening today.

Emiliano Zapata (who I am quite fond of) also personally executed his followers for disloyalty. Every army has harsh penalties for desertion and treason; summary execution during war is pretty standard. The Spanish anarchist militias went into convents and beheaded the nuns. Not that I'm justifying any of these things, of course, but it's not just Marxist-Leninists who do them.

thus far, i have seen 0 che shirts when in possession of my camera. Then, the only day iwas without my trusted 35mm pal, i ran into a highly attractive (blonde hair not a plus) pen student and proceeded to use the che shirt she was wearing to engage in conversation.

I asked her if she knew who the man was depicted on her t-shirt and she shrugged her shoulders and replied, "I don't know but everyone's wearing them."

Her attraction level plummetted into negative number territory after that little demonstration of ignorance.

Vacant and pretty. Ah, the Ivy league.
