Candy from strangers
Sep. 27th, 2005 07:44 pmAs I was walking home, a fellow approached me. "Excuse me," he said.
"Yes?" Was this another mysterious person from my past? Or maybe someone I should have known from political circles but couldn't place. But no -- I was fairly certain I'd never met the guy before.
"I was wondering if I could do you a random act of kindness."
A little taken aback, I replied, "I guess that depends on what it is."
"I'd just like to give you something -- some chocolates, a candle, tea..."
Tea? He had my attention. "Really?"
"I noticed that you have a really great aura. It's good for the city -- we need more of that." And he handed me a gift bag filled with the aforementioned items, and a nice little teapot to top it off.
I introduced myself, still wondering whether I somehow knew him (I didn't) or whether there was a hidden camera or Bible tract coming up. There wasn't. I just had an extremely nice encounter with an exceptionally kind complete stranger.
There's no sarcastic punchline coming. It just made my day.

What can I say, I guess even (former) community mainainers can't always handle honest debate.

The icon has it's own origin story.

I'm waiting for the phone to ring.
I suck at waiting.

Date: 2005-09-28 01:54 pm (UTC)You can have some of my phone calls. I had a certain person (who doesn't understand phone anxiety) wanting to talk to me for several hours, while other people called and left messages. Which I then had to answer.
I hate phones.
*hugs back*

Date: 2005-09-28 06:14 pm (UTC)I now have "approaching weekend and important conversation" anxiety, compounded by not knowing whether the third party in the discourse is
a) available for conversation
b) amenable to conversation
c) actively hostile
d) avoiding the questions entirely
Maybe I'll stay home and bury myself in textbooks.
