What comes to mind is the Calvin & Hobbes throw-away gag where the pair are staring at a book. Calvin asks quizzically "It says here that religion is the opiate of the masses. What do you suppose that means?" In the next panel, their television, tuned to a dead channel, replies in a thought bubble: "It means Karl Marx hadn't seen anything yet."

I'm still kinda surprised that that actually made it past the editorial filters.
