So you have an election, and now we're going to have an election*, and I'm going to have that thing every year where I get all crusty about the NDP and then working for them anyway**. In the meantime, you can make everyone's day by participating in a decision-making process that your vote can actually influence.

That's right, people. Send [livejournal.com profile] gillen to Forks, WA. You know it'll be hilarious and he can eat BELLASAGNA and we can all have lolz.

Do it! Do it now!

UPDATE: Comrade [livejournal.com profile] gillen has suggested that I am displaying Forksist tendencies. So while you are over there voting, make sure to denounce him for his lack of commitment to Sparkle Motion.

ANOTHER UPDATE: I take it back. Comrade [livejournal.com profile] gillen is committed to Sparkle Motion after all, and deserves a commendation from the Party.

* Where should I flee to if Harper gets a majority? Venezuela again?

** Maybe not. Seeing as I'm in Layton's riding, I might vote for the Marxist-Leninists like I threaten to every year.

Oops. Sorry, I missed your mention of being in Layton's riding.

There's a kick-off of Olivia's campaign this afternoon.

We have our nomination meeting tomorrow, with Alexa quitting just after I moved to the riding, the meanie. I've been being aggressively called & emailed for my vote at the meeting.

You live in Layton's riding? You poor dear. I haaaaate that man. Don's met him and Don haaaates him, too. And Don's much nicer than I am.

I'm planning tea & cookies for the liberal nominee when they decide to come by.

*rubs hands together*

"Gee, I'm just a wee little girl with a wee little girl brain. Maybe you should explain again why Dion decided that doing his job would be a bad thing? I would get fired if I did that, tee hee! Cookie?"

I always invite my Conservative candidates in... I figure if I can string them along and use up resources with repeated calls and visits... it's only a good thing.

Have I mentioned that CleverMonkey did his first flyer drop at 2.5 years?

"Don't worry, we're not here for a visit, we're just bringing you your flyers from the Endeeepppeeeee."

I thought her speech was awesome, I really did. She wasn't the person I was backing, but her speech really made me feel good about our candidate. She's very powerful, and I believe in her!

I have *four* elections in the next year...

1) Federal, in which my riding's former BC-Liberal MLA Lorne Mayencourt will be running as a (retch) Conservative against Hedy Fry along with NDP candidate Michael Byers. The federal riding includes not only the downtown but chunks of Kitsilano, South Granville and Fairview, which gives every party a chance basically.

2) Provincial byelection, in which candidates in Vancouver-Burrard (entire downtown riding) square off to replace Lorne Mayencourt. The BC Liberals recruited Arthur Griffiths who used to own the Canucks, and the NDP has the young, awesome, adorable Spencer Herbert (http://www.spencerherbert.ca/ - every gay man in Vancouver is hoping his relationship is not a monogamous one). The old grandmothers look at him and think "Aw, he's the grandson I always wanted. I'll vote for him."

3) Municipal election, in which our mayor Sam Sullivan was turfed by his party (it's really weird having municipal political parties, I think), so another guy is running against him, and the leftier party is running Gregor Robertson.

4) Provincial election in May 2009, in which Arthur and Spencer will be squaring off *again*, but this time the riding shrinks to only the West End, so that teh gheys are much more concentrated in the mix of votes... but I won't be in the riding anymore. I'll be grouped with the seniors on the other side of False Creek.

Vancouver's going to be a political gong show through next spring...

Hehe I see what you mean. Yeah he's a cutie. And he speaks very politely but with perfect comebacks.

I think in the Obama era, parties all over the political spectrum will be panicking to churn out good-looking young candidates who have substance.

Canada has elections? I thought you guys just wrassled for political office!

:)

I'm fleeing to Switzerland, meself!

I wonder if Obama could take mccain in a wrastling match. I have a feeling Palin might kick ol' Biden's ass. She's in pretty good shape!

I know that Palin ran a marathon in under four hours, just several years ago, when she ran in the Anchorage marathon. That's really good for an amateur, so that beeyoitch is in good shape!

She's not the fastest replublican though. Pawlenty has run two sub-four marathons, improving his time by 16 minutes on the second one!

(I got all this from the [livejournal.com profile] runners community!)

As for Canada's elections, I was sure wrestling was the electoral basis for the country except in Quebec. (Backgammon maybe for Quebec?)

I'm in a riding where the Liberal's got elected last year after kicking a Tory out. I did vote NDP last time and most likely will again, depending on how close it is by election time.

I could, but only if my vote were the one deciding vote that would keep a Harperite out of office, and I'd have to do serious penance afterwards. Better a stinkin' Lib than a Harperite, even if that is like saying better to drink Hemlock than to be tarred and feathered.
