nihilistic_kid posted a picture. Compare these portraits to English portraits of drunkards in the Edwardian era. Also, their website must be seen to be believed. If I didn't think I'd get in trouble for it, I'd totally show it to my students when I try (in vain, I might add) to teach them why you shouldn't tile a background image and then put red type over it.

It's amusing to poke fun of them, but expect to see more of this sort of thing. American political culture has been steeping in a higher-than-usual amount of crazy for some time now, and it's just beginning to come to a head.

I was going to comment on his post that I hadn't seen a good "militia" story in months - all the violent camo-wearing loons seemed to be surfacing for the Tea Party.

I'm not sure which is more appalling, their mangling of Christian doctrine or their torturing of the principles of good design.

Or, like, their plan to shoot lots of people and blow things up. That would probably be worse come to think of it.

P.S. Have you've read a new book (as of this summer) called Blood Politics, it's about how white supremacists (the overt racialist ones, not the cover assholes in power) have slowly gone mainstream in American politics over the last thirty years. It basically cover how there were two wings, a mainstreamer one (think david duke and willis carto) and the more revolutionary, hardcore Tom Metzger/William Peirce wing have battled it out for the primacy of the movement.

Since Peirce's little empire fell apart, the mainstreamers have been winning out in that debate. A lot of these guys were active in the Minuteman anti-immigrant BS and a lot them have jumps on the Tea Party bandwagon.
