If I were embroiled in a drug scandal, among the things I probably wouldn't be doing is selling bobble-head dolls of myself.

They proved popular, unsurprisingly. If I didn't have to work tomorrow, I'd sell tiny crack pipes at the demo at City Hall.

In related Honourable Wife-Beater merchandise news, the wonderful and talented Stacey Case is selling #inadrunkenstupor t-shirts. I'd buy one (the money goes to a better cause—fuck the United Way, I'd rather support Stacey) but I think one Rob Ford t-shirt is enough for me.

I wouldn't, because I find bobble-heads fucking terrifying. One of my friends got me a Tom Baker one, and I keep it hidden (in a TARDIS ice-box, of course). Every so often I remember it's there and get freaked out.

Good ol' Ford is really making a splash here in thee States. Stewart, Colbert, and Bill Mahr have all had a good shot at him. I was especially entertained by the video of him shouting f-bombs and talking about killing someone. (In particular? I don't have the context for that one.)

I thought the whole point of UW was that the member agencies didn't have to incur fundraising expenses, they are all taken care of by the umbrella organization. So they get less money, but more than if they had to spend some of their income on doing their own advertising, outreach, etc.

I'm not being argumentative here, I genuinely want to know if my understanding of how UW works is incorrect.

What frandroid said. They have a hugely high overhead and it makes way more sense to give to whatever charities you want to directly. They're quintessential non-profit industrial complex. And I don't like that they stick things in my work mailbox with my address on it guilting me into donating to them.
